NIKHILGAUTAM

I build backend systems, APIs, and products with a focus on reliability, scalability, and clean architecture.

I like building things
that are hard to break.

Backend engineering is about more than making code work — it's about designing systems that stay reliable under pressure, scale without accumulating fragility, and remain understandable as they grow.

I work across APIs, databases, distributed systems, authentication infrastructure, and backend architecture. I'm interested in the decisions that matter: data consistency, failure modes, service boundaries, and how systems behave at their edges.

Backend Engineering

Building and maintaining backend systems for a healthcare platform, covering APIs and services across clinical and administrative workflows.

  • Designing and maintaining RESTful APIs for appointment, inventory, billing, and document workflows
  • Working with MongoDB transactions to ensure data consistency across collections
  • Implementing asynchronous processing pipelines using RabbitMQ
  • Performance optimization using Redis caching for high-frequency reads

About

I'm Nikhil — a backend engineer interested in building systems that hold up under real conditions. I don't chase frameworks; I try to understand the problems they exist to solve.

I primarily work with TypeScript and Node.js, building APIs and backend services on top of MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis. I've spent time thinking about authentication infrastructure, transactional correctness, async processing patterns, and how services should talk to each other.

Right now, I'm deepening my understanding of distributed systems, service boundaries, and infrastructure — the kinds of decisions that determine how well a system survives at scale or under load.

Outside of backend work, I experiment with hardware (ESP32), contribute small developer tools, and occasionally explore what it means to build well-designed developer experiences.
